NEW COMMIT: The University of California, Berkeley has received its second early verbal commitment for the 2024-25 season, this time from in-state standout Matthew Elliott of Aptos, California.

He’ll join Carter Lancaster as a member of the Golden Bears’ Class of 2028.

Regarding his commitment, he said:

“I’m beyond excited to announce that I will be continuing my swimming and school career at the University of California Berkeley beginning in the fall of 2024. Thank you to my parents, my coach, and all my teammates that have pushed me to achieve this goal of mine. Go Bears ?!!”

A sprint freestyler and butterflyer, Elliott trains year-round with Quicksilver Swimming and most recently earned a pair of best times at Junior Nationals this past summer after placing ninth in the 100m free at Roseville Sectionals. He raced the 50m free at the International Team Trials in the spring and sprinted to fifth in the 50 free at Juniors West last winter.

His best times include:

  • 50 free – 19.89
  • 100 free – 44.39
  • 200 free – 1:40.50
  • 100 fly – 58.05

Currently a junior at Soquel High School, Elliott earned silver in the 50 free and bronze in the 100 free at the 2022 CIF State Championships, finishing as the runner-up in both of those events at the CIF Central Coast Section Championship.

Under head coach Dave Durden, the Golden Bears won the Pac-12 Championship title before winning the NCAA crown last season.
