Caeleb Dressel Appears at NFL Game While Dealing With Toe Injury

Seven-time Olympic gold medalist and 15-time world champion Caeleb Dressel made an appearance at an NFL game between the New England Patriots and Indianapolis Colts Sunday in Foxborough, Mass., in support of sponsor NOBULL, and Instagram photos from that event show Dressel with his foot wrapped and wearing a medical boot.

A representative for Dressel confirmed that the boot was related to a minor toe injury that Dressel had dealt with in the past. The injury was described as “nothing major” and “just a pre-existing bother that he needed to get fixed.”

Dressel has not competed since leaving this summer’s World Championships early for undisclosed medical reasons, and he has made few public comments in the five months since. In an Instagram post in early September, Dressel said that he was happy without swimming but that he planned on returning to the pool after a break. His representative did confirm that Dressel’s toe injury is not related to his absence from the pool.

Dressel won five Olympic gold medals at the Tokyo Games last year, including a close win over Kyle Chalmers in the 100 freestyle before holding off Kristof Milak in the 100 butterfly and dominating the 50 free. At Worlds this year, Dressel won gold medals as part of the U.S. men’s 400 free relay and in the 50 fly before he departed Budapest.
