Buckeyes Open Class of 2025 Recruiting With Verbal from Michigan D3 State Champion Gwen Woodbury

NEW COMMIT: Freestyler and IMer Gwen Woodbury of Bloomfield Hills, Mich. has announced her verbal commitment to The Ohio State University and will suit up for the Buckeyes in the fall of 2021.

Woodbury does her club swimming with Motor City Aquatics and owns the U.S. Open cut in the 200m free with the Junior National standard in the 100m free. She achieved four best times at Cleveland Sectionals this past summer where her highest finish was a fourth-place showing in the 200m free. Last winter, she raced nine events and finaled in the 200 free at NCSAs.

A current junior at Cranbrook Kingswood High School, Woodbury is already a four-time Michigan DIII State Championship finalist. The USA Swimming Scholastic All-American was the runner-up in the 100 free and 200 free during her sophomore season after winning both of those events as a freshman.

She told Swimming World:

50 free – 23.84
100 free – 51.25
200 free – 1:49.68
200 IM – 2:07.92
400 IM – 4:29.01

Woodbury will add even more depth to an already-talented Ohio State sprint freestyle group when she arrives on campus as a member of the class of 2025. It took a 23.10/50.57/1:48.56 to score in the 50/100/200 freestyle events at the 2019 Big Ten Championships, but Woodbury has consistently made improvements each season and still has just under two years of club swimming still to go.
