Brynlee Busskohl Crushes 100 Breast Record; Lander Valley Four-Peats at Wyoming Girls 3A State Meet

The Wyoming girls 3A State Swimming & Diving Championships took place on Nov. 8 at the Campbell County School Aquatic Center in Gillette, Wy. For the fourth-straight season, Lander Valley secured the team title.

The meet was highlighted by Lyman’s Brynlee Busskohl who crushed her own state record in the 100 breast. Busskohl, along with Emi Wagner and Ashlon Koch, all shared Athlete of the Meet honors while Hannah Gross earned the Athlete of the Year award.

Lyman’s Harper Hewitt (29.61), Brynlee Bisskohl (29.74), Brooklyn Bisskohl (27.65), and Samantha Weston (26.36) teamed up to win the opening 4×50 medley relay in 1:53.36, narrowly edging out Lander Valley who finished second in a close 1:53.47. Cody took third in 1:56.11.

Newcastle’s Hannah Gross cruised to first in the 200 free, winning the event in 1:57.79 as the only swimmer in the field under the two-minute barrier. Last year’s champion Olivia Fowler of Lander Valley wound up second in 2:00.41 while Powell’s Elizabeth Liggett took third in 2:03.11. Fowler redeemed herself by defending her title in the 100 back, powering home in 59.65 as the only swimmer to crack 60 seconds. Gross took second in 1:00.20. and Cody’s Megan Boyson was third in 1:01.56.

Buffalo’s Makenna Lambert dominated the 200 IM, finishing five seconds ahead of the field with a winning time of 2:16.08. Lander Valley teammates Lainy Duncan (2:21.79) and Makayla McPherson (2:23.41) finished second and third, respectively. Powell’s Emma Karhu dove to first place on the 1-meter diving with a final score of 383.85. Douglas’ Lauren Pooley took second with 314.05 points and Sublette County’s Isabella Romasko took third with a score of 299.40.

Buffalo’s Emi Wagner sprinted to the top of the podium in the 50 free for the second-straight year, winning in 24.32. Brynlee Bisskohl was close behind in 24.44 for second while Riverton’s Josie Dike rounded out the podium by taking third in 24.87. E. Wagner then proved her sprint talent by winning the 100 free in 54.29, just slightly ahead of Dike (54.36) who again took second. Codys Ally Boysen claimed third in 54.50.

It was a 1-2 punch for Lander Valley in the 100 fly as sophomore Ashlon Koch raced to the wall first in 1:02.14, followed closely by her teammate McPherson who took second in 1:02.50. Sublette County’s Sierra Hattan grabbed third in 1:02.96. Koch found herself on top of the podium again in the 500 free, winning by nine seconds in 5:27.10. Lambert (5:36.03) and Liggett (5:40.27) rounded out the top three.

Brynlee Busskohl was victorious in the 100 breast for the second-consecutive year, winning with a final time of 1:05.59. She was just off the 1:05.47 she swam during prelims which crushed her own state record of 1:07.36 she set at this meet last year. She held off a charging Teryn Thatcher of Kemmerer who was also under the old record with a time of 1:05.66 for second while Duncan took third in 1:10.90.

Buffalo’s E. Wagner (25.00), Grace Wagner (25.71), Maddi Johnson (25.58), and Luci Riddle (25.69) combined to win the 4×50 free relay in 1:41.97 ahead of Lyman (1:43.65) and Lander Valley (1:44.28). E. Wagner (55.13), G. Wagner (56.08), Johnson (57.02), and Lambert (54.50) concluded the meet as 4×100 free relay champions with a final time of 3:42.73, besting Lander Valley (3:45.65) and Cody (3:54.99).
