Ana Marcela Cunha won her third world title in the women’s 25k this morning at the 2017 FINA World Swimming Championships. Cunha finished first by two seconds in 5:21.58.

Cunha’s previous wins in this race came at the 2011 World Championships in Shanghai and in 2015 in Kazan. In addition, Cunha has two silver medals and four bronze medals from past world championships, and she has made the podium in every individual open water event. At last year’s Olympics, she finished in tenth.

The 2016 Olympic gold medalist in the women’s 10k, Sharon van Rouwendaal of the Netherlands, bounced back from disappointing finishes in the 10k and 5k earlier this week to finish second. She swam a time of 5:22.00.

Italy’s Arianna Bridi, who tied for bronze in the 10k, earned another bronze medal, finishing in 5:22.08. Her teammate, Martina Grimaldi, finished fourth in 5:23.54.

Hungarian Anna Olasz, the defending silver medalist in this event, took fifth place in 5:23.55. Russia’s Anastasiia Krapivina followed in sixth in 5:24.03.

The United States’s Becca Mann finished seventh in 5:27.06, ahead of 10k champion Aurelie Muller of France, who touched eighth in 5:28.25.

The second American, Cathryn Salladin, came in tenth place in 5:29.49.
