Boston College Eagles Land 2021 Verbal Commitments from Olivia Howard, Liza Murtagh

NEW COMMITS: Boston College has recently received a pair of verbal commitments for the 2021-22 season and beyond from Houston, Texas native Olivia Howard and Liza Murtagh of Wilmington, N.C.

Both talented swimmers will arrive in Chestnut Hill as members of the Eagles’ class of 2025 along with Mary Kate Leonard and Samantha Smith.

OLIVIA HOWARD

She told Swimming World:

“I am so happy to announce that I have verbally committed to swim and study at Boston College!! I am so grateful for my coaches, family, and friends for supporting me throughout this journey. I cannot wait to join the Eagle family. #WeAreBC”

A talented freestyler, Howard does her club swimming with Swim Houston Aquatics Center and most recently won the 500/1000 free combo at the Gulf SCY Championships. Last summer, she earned four best times at the Gulf LCM Summer Championships where she recorded four top-8 finishes.

Her best times include:

  • 100 free – 52.76
  • 200 free – 1:52.58
  • 500 free – 4:55.98
  • 1000 free – 10:18.57

Also competing for The Kinkaid School, Howard is a six-time Texas Southwest Prep Conference Championship finalist. She was the 500 free runner-up and took fifth in the 200 free as a junior while taking third in both of those events during her sophomore season.

LIZA MURTAGH

Regarding her commitment, she said:

“I am very excited to announce my verbal commitment to continue my academic and swimming career at Boston College! Thank you to my friends, family, and coaches for their continuous support. I cannot wait for the next four years!! GO EAGLES!!!”

A versatile swimmer, Murtagh swims year-round with Waves Of Wilmington, Inc. and recently took sixth in the 200 breast at North Carolina Seniors. She registered five top-15 finishes at North Carolina Seniors in 2019 where she was the runner-up in the 100 IM.

Her best times include:

  • 50 free – 24.04
  • 100 free – 52.85
  • 100 breast – 1:05.34
  • 200 breast – 2:19.27
  • 400 IM – 4:30.35

A rising senior at Cape Fear Christian Academy, Murtagh is a six-time North Carolina State Championship finalist. The USA Swimming Scholastic All-American won the 50 free and 100 breast as a junior while taking first in the 100 breast and third in the 100 fly during her sophomore campaign.
