Auburn Secures Third Class of 2026 Verbal from Lucas Thomas of Lakeside Swim Team

NEW COMMIT: Louisville, Ky. native and Junior National qualifier Lucas “Luke” Thomas has handed Auburn University yet another early verbal commitment for the 2022-23 season and beyond.

He will join Drew Jordan and Collin Klingman as a member of their Class of 2026.

Regarding his commitment, he said:

“I’m excited to announce my verbal commitment to Auburn University. I can’t wait to continue my athletics and academic studies as an Auburn Tiger. I would like to thank all my coaches, teammates, and family who have helped me through this process and pushed me when I needed it. WAR EAGLE ?!!!”

A versatile swimmer, Thomas does his club swimming with Lakeside Swim Team and most recently placed 14th in the 200 IM at the Southern Premier Invitational where he achieved five best times. Last summer, he achieved 100% lifetime bests at Greensboro Sectionals en route to taking 14th in the 200m breast and 16th in the 200m fly.

He then went on to earn gold in both the 100m fly and 200m IM as well as silver in the 200m breast and bronze in the 100m free at the Southern Zone Age Group Championships.

His best times include:

  • 100 fly – 48.97
  • 200 fly – 1:48.51
  • 200 IM – 1:51.66
  • 100 breast – 57.04
  • 200 breast – 2:04.81
  • 50 free – 21.13
  • 100 free – 46.94

A current junior at St. Xavier High School, Thomas was the runner-up in the 100 fly and took fifth in the 50 free as a sophomore at the Kentucky State Championships. He also swam on the winning 4×50 and 4×100 free relays to help his team clinch their 32nd-straight state title.

He has also earned USA Swimming Scholastic All-American honors for his efforts.
