Arizona State Begins 2023 Recruiting With Verbals From Lia Csulak, Sonia Vaishnani

NEW COMMIT: Arizona State University has officially begun its Class of 2027 recruiting after receiving a pair of verbal commitments from Erd, Hungary native Lia Csulak and Sonia Vaishnani of Helotes, Texas.

Regarding her commitment, she said:

“I’m beyond excited to finally announce my verbal commitment to swim and study at Arizona State University starting in the Summer of 2023! I would like to thank my friends, family, coaches and @swimcoachrachel for leading me through this journey. Can’t WAIT to be a sun devil? Forks UP for a lifetime of new memories and experiences”

Csulak, who trains with Érdi VíziSport, finished 12th in the 1500m free at the LEN European Junior Championships in Budapest before going on to earn three best times at the Hungarian Junior National meet where she won the 800m free. She also finished fifth in the 200m fly at the European Junior Championships in Rome.

In LCM, her best times include:

  • 400 free – 4:20.57
  • 800 free – 8:42.77
  • 1500 free – 16:44.64
  • 200 fly – 2:11.83
  • 400 IM – 4:47.53

SONIA VAISHNANI

Regarding her commitment, she said:

“I am extremely thrilled to announce my verbal commitment to further my academic and athletic career at Arizona State University! I could not be more thankful for my family, friends, and all the coaches who have continued to support me. A special thank you to the coaching staff at ASU for such an incredible opportunity and for welcoming me into the Sun Devil family. FORKS UP!!”

Vaishnani does her club swimming with Alamo Area Aquatic Association and placed 13th in the 400m IM and 14th in the 200m IM at the Speedo Summer West Championships this past summer. She also earned bronze in the 200m IM at Austin Sectionals where she finaled in four additional events. She has earned USA Swimming Scholastic All-American honors as well.

Her best times include:

  • 500 free – 4:52.72
  • 200 free – 1:50.54
  • 400 IM – 4:21.80
  • 200 IM – 2:04.36
  • 200 breast – 2:18.06
  • 100 breast – 1:04.29
  • 200 fly – 2:04.82
