Anna Hopkin Swims NCAA-Best 1:44 in 200 Free at Missouri Invitational

Another night and another stellar performance by Arkansas sprinter Anna Hopkin.

The British sensation dominated the 200-yard free to win in 1:44.40, seven seconds ahead of the field, on the second night of the Missouri Invitational.

It is the fastest time in the NCAA this year. The time would have made the consolation final at last year’s NCAA championships.

It was Hopkin’s second head-turning performance of the meet.

Anna Hopkin turned in the top 50 free time of the season on night one. Her time of 21.19 broke the pool and school record in the event. And she was just getting started.

So were the Razorbacks.

Arkansas rising star Peyton Palsha earned her second victory of the meet with a 4:11.14 in the 400 IM to hold off the rest of the field by nearly four seconds. Nebraska’s Madison Coughlen was second in 4:15.03.

The Missouri women started strong with a win in the 200 medley relay. Haley Hynes, Molly Winer, Sarah Thompson and Megan Keil finished in 1:35.69 to finish two seconds ahead of the field.

The Tigers followed suit in the men’s event, as Daniel Hein, Nick Staver, Micah Slaton and Danny Kovac won in 1:24.76.

Missouri’s Carter Grimes won the 400 IM in 3:44.72, easily besting the field by three seconds.

San Diego State’s Morganne McKennan won the 100 breaststroke in 59.83, the only swimmer in the field to break a minute. Arkansas’ Vanessa Herrmann was second in 1:00.54.

Mikel Schreuders won the 200 free in 1:33.92 ahead of Missouri’s Jack Dahlgren (1:34.29).

But it was Anna Hopkin who had the head-turning performance of the night.
