Amidst Craziness, Claire Curzan’s 100 Fly NAG Record Was Also a World Junior Record

This weekend saw the first battle of two potential rising stars in the sport of swimming as Claire Curzan and Torri Huske each broke 57 seconds in the 100 butterfly, setting the national age group record for the 15-16 & 17-18 age group, respectively. Curzan swam a 56.20 to put herself eighth all-time, while Huske was a 56.69 to put herself 15th.

Curzan also broke the world junior record that Canada’s Penny Oleksiak held at 56.46, set back in 2016 with her silver medal winning swim from the last Olympics. In the US ranks, Curzan is the second fastest American behind Dana Vollmer (55.98) from 2012 while Huske is the fourth fastest American after Kelsi Dahlia (56.37) from 2017.

Curzan’s previous NAG record stood at 56.61. Huske broke the former standard for 17-18s that was held by Regan Smith at 57.34.

Huske will be a freshman at Stanford University next fall while Curzan will be a senior in high school next year and has not publicly stated where she will be attending college.
