Americans Hali Flickinger, Shaine Casas Added for FINA 2022 World Cup Series

Americans Hali Flickinger and Shaine Casas were confirmed for the entire FINA 2022 World Cup Series on Wednesday, FINA said in a press release.

Flickinger, 28, has been a staple on the international circuit for the Americans. The three-time NCAA champion at Georgia made her Olympic debut at the 2016 Games in Rio, then won bronze in both the 200 butterfly and 400 individual medley at the Tokyo Olympics in 2021. She has four World Championships medals, including silvers in the 200 fly at the last two editions and two relay gold medals.

Casas, 22, is among the rising American stars, despite missing out on the Tokyo Olympics. He won six medals at the 2021 FINA World Short-Course Championships in Abu Dhabi, claiming gold in the 100 backstroke, silver in the 200 back and four relay medals. He won bronze in the 200 back at long-course Worlds this summer in Budapest.

The FINA 2022 World Cup tour will stop in Berlin on Oct. 21-23, Toronto on Oct. 28-30 and Indianapolis on Nov. 3-5. It’s the first time the series has come back to Canada and the U.S. since 1988.

The two Americans join a list of eight confirmed stars released last week: Thomas Ceccon, Kyle Chalmers, Nic Fink, Anastasia Gorbenko, Siobhan Haughey, Louise Hansson, Kylie Masse and 2021 overall men’s series winner, Matthew Sates. Swimmers in the FINA 2022 World Cup Series will battle it out for a total prize purse of $1.2 million.
