2022 NCAA Women’s Championships: Delaney Schnell Takes Top Seed in Platform; Texas Makes Move with 3 in Finals

The 2022 NCAA Women’s Division I Swimming and Diving Championships continued with the prelims of the platform diving.

Texas put a tree in the top eight, which will provide huge points for the Longhorns, who are trying to catch Stanford for second place.

According to the point projections, Stanford holds a 392-381 lead over Texas for second place, but that doesn’t include the mile that will have Erica Sullivan swimming for Texas.

Texas junior Jordan Skilken took the sixth seed (295.30), followed by teammates Janie Boyle (294.50) and Paola Pineda (294.20).

A huge diving point swing has helped the Texas men’s teams often in their quest for NCAA championships. The trend is continuing on the women’s side.

Arizona junior Delaney Schnell took the top seed with 351.50 points, narrowly ahead of Indiana sophomore Tarrin Gilliland with 350.20 points.

Rutgers senior Abigail Knapton took the third seed with 333.25 points, followed by USC junior Nike Agundiade (304.25). They were the only four divers to surpass 300 points during prelims.

Purdue senior Maggie Merriman took the fifth seed in 298.55.

The diving will once again factor into the team race, led by the Texas Longhorns trio.
