The 2022 NCAA Men’s Division I Swimming and Diving Championships continued with the 3-meter diving prelims from McAuley Aquatic Center on the campus of Georgia Tech in Atlanta.

Texas A&M senior Kurtis Mathews took the top seed on the 3-meter board with a dominating 447.30 score. Mathews won the 1-meter board NCAA title on Thursday and is in position to possibly claim a second title.

Purdue has the second and third seeds with freshman Tyler Downs at 413.95 and senior Gregory Duncan less than a point behind at 413.30.

Florida junior Leonardo Garcia took the fourth seed with 408.20 points, followed by Indiana’s Andrew Capobianco (407.75), Columbia’s Jonathan Suckow (405.40), North Carolina’s Anton Down Jenkins (404.70) and LSU’s Juan Celaya-Hernandez (395.55).

Mathews didn’t compete at NCAAs last year due to obligations with the Australian national team, despite winning the SEC title on 3-meter and a silver medal in 1-meter in 2021. He also qualified for the 2020 NCAA championships before it was wiped out by the COVID-19 pandemic. The native of Sydney finished 31st on 1-meter in 2019 at NCAAs.

“I wasn’t able to compete, and coming back this year after a decent performance at our conference meet, I wanted to come out and finish,” Mathews said of his 1-meter win. “This is the last time I get to be here, so I wanted to try my best and see if I could end up on the podium, and it was an excellent field. Everyone was amazing. I just was lucky enough to win today.”
