Princeton Captures Team Title at Ivy League Champs

The Princeton Tigers Wrapped Up a Dominant Meet With a Team Championship.

The final night of the Ivy League women’s swimming and diving championships is underway. Princeton leads the team race, though by less than 100 points over Harvard. Tonights events include the timed final for the 1650 freestyle, finals of the 200 backstroke, 100 freestyle, 200 breaststroke, 200 butterfly, and the 400 freestyle relay (finals only).

The Princeton Tigers grabbed the overall team title with a dominating team performance. Led by freshmen triple winners Nikki Venema and Ellie Marquardt, the Tigers won their 23rd overall team title.

Women’s 1650 Freestyle (Timed Final)

Princeton’s Ellie Marquardt capped off her first Ivy League Championships with her third win of the meet, completing the 500-1000-1650 sweep in 16:06.96. Catherine Buroker (16:09.76) of Penn was just behind for second, with Yale’s Ashley Loomis taking third (16:22.28).

Women’s 200 Backstroke

Harvard’s Felicia Pasadyn smashed the meet record, swimming a 1:52.56 to win by almost 2.5 seconds. Second place went to teammate Samantha Shelton (1:54.91) and third was claimed by Cate Sawkins of Yale (1:56.94).

Mary Pruden of Columbia raced to a B final win in 1:57.52. Brown freshman Sage Matsushima took the C final with a 2:00.64.

Women’s 100 Freestyle

Another Princeton freshman, Nikki Venema, completed a sweep of her own, grabbing the 100 free title in 48.55. Taylor Seaman of Brown finished second in 48.85, edging out Yale’s Isabella Henig‘s 48.90.

Cornell senior Laurel Kiselis won the B final, with a time of 49.97, and Zoe Wortzman of Dartmouth took the C final in 50.57.

Women’s 200 Breaststroke

Harvard junior Jaycee Yegher won her second race of the meet, taking the longer breaststroke race in a meet-record time of 2:08.47. Coming in over four seconds behind for second was Janet Zhao of Princeton (2:12.67) followed by Yale’s Cha O’Leary (2:13.45).

Taking the B final was Ash Pales, a senior from Yale (2:14.11), and Emma Holmquist of Penn won the C final (2:17.82).

Women’s 200 Butterfly

Miki Dahlke of Harvard swam away with this race, winning in 1:55.11. Christian Bradley (1:57.25) picked up second place for Princeton, and Mia Leko (1:58.70) grabbed third for Dartmouth.

Harvard’s Regan Barney (1:59.14) won the B final. Dartmouth’s Siera Daly swam a 2:01.39 to claim the C final.

Women’s 400 Freestyle Relay

Harvard’s quartet of Pasadyn (49.27), Kennedy Quist (48.61), Shelton (48.47), and Dahlke (48.13) combined for a 3:14.48, breaking the meet record. Princeton was not far behind with a 3:17.11, with Yale grabbing third in 3:19.48. Dartmouth was fourth, followed by Brown, Penn, Cornell, and Columbia.
