2020 WAC Swimming Championships: Meet Resumes After Water Break

A major water break which has closed the University of Houston campus forced the Western Athletic Conference to cancel Thursday’s evening session of the 2020 WAC Swimming Championships and change the Friday finals into one session.

WAC Swimming Championships: Men’s 200 Free Relay

Air Force’s Matthew Lattin, Cole McAnany, Andrew Limpert and Corey Shepard won the 200 free relay in 1:19.23.

Grand Canyon’s Mazen Shoukry, Samuel McKenzie, Omar Elsayd and Florent Janin (1:19.61).

UNLV’s Richard Szilagyi, Bryan Chavez, Sean Gage and Hayden Hemmens took third (1:19.73).

Air Force’s Adam Grimm won the 400 IM in 3:49.53 to hold off Grand Canyon’s Barbero Carazo (3:50.17).

UNLV’s Ivan Zukov finished third in 3:51.08. All three of the top times were NCAA B cuts.

The top four competitors in the 100 butterfly earned NCAA B cuts, led by Air Force’s Matthew Lattin, who won the race in 46.92.

Wyoming’s Brayden Love was second in 47.06, followed by UNLV’s Bryan Chavez (47.09) and Grand Canyon’s Mazen Shoukry (47.42).

The top five times in the men’s 200 free earned NCAA B cuts, one of the fastest events of the meet.

Air Force’s Wen Zhang won the event in 1:33.93 to finish ahead of UNLV’s Ogi Maric (1:34.28).

Bakersfield’s Ryan Brimer was third in 1:35.02, followed by Wyoming’s Austin Crump (1:36.24) and UNLV’s Hayden Hemmens (1:36.27).

Northern Arizona’s Hope Williams dropped a second from her seed time to win the 100 breast and earn an NCAA B cut in the event. She touched the wall in 1:01.75.

UNLV’s Panos Bolanos took third (46.99), tied with California Baptist’s Jacob Leahy (46.99), just ahead of UNLV’s Hayden Cornellison (47.62).

WAC Swimming Championships:  Women’s 100 Back

Idaho sophomore Katie Hale and Northern Arizona freshman Lainie Bell tied for the title in the women’s 100 backstroke, each clocking a 54.75.

California Baptist’s Emily Longfellow finished third in 55.30, followed by Northern Colorado’s Madelyn Moore (55.42).
