2020 Pac-12 Women’s Championships Day 2 Prelims: ASU Takes Top 3 Seeds in 500

The 2020 Pac-12 Women’s Championships continued on Thursday with the meet’s first preliminary session.

After the first day, Cal and USC are tied for the lead with 120 points. Stanford is third at 108, followed by Arizona State (98), Arizona (98), Washington State (90) and Utah (90).

Pac-12 Women’s Championships: 500 Freestyle

Arizona State has a strong distance group and proved it once again in the 500 freestyle prelims, taking the top three seeds.

Junior Emma Nordin took the top seed in 4:37.39, dropping more than three seconds from her seed time. Junior Erica Laning took the second seed in 4:37.90, while senior Cierra Runge took the third spot in 4:38.36.

Cal’s Robin Neumann took the fourth seed in 4:39.29, followed by Stanford’s quartet of Brooke Forde (4:39.36), Lauren Pitzer (4:39.43), Erin Voss (4:39.51) and Morgan Tankersley (4:39.72).

Pac-12 Women’s Championships: 200 IM

USC’s Louise Hansson dropped a half second from her prelims time to take the top seed in the 200 IM, finishing in 1:55.70.

It was enough to finish nearly a second ahead of the field.

Cal took the next three spots as Izzy Ivey took the second seed in 1:56.65, followed by Keaton Blovad (1:56.65) and Alicia Wilson (1:56.71).

Arizona State’s Nora Deleske took the fifth seed (1:57.80), followed by USC’s Tatum Wade (1:57.89), and UCLA’s Kenisha Liu (1:57.98) and Delaney Smith (1:58.31).

Pac-12 Women’s Championships: 50 Freestyle

NCAA record-holder Abbey Weitzeil took the top seed in the 50 freestyle. Her seed time was her record 20.90. The Cal senior took the top seed with a 21.09 in the prelims.

Stanford’s Anya Goeders took the second seed in 22.01.

USC’s Marta Ciesla and Cal’s Eloise Riley tied for the third seed at 22.08.

UCLA’s Claire Grover took the fifth seed in 22.13, followed by Cal’s Maddie Murphy (22.22), Arizona State’s Camryn Curry (22.23) and Stanford’s Emma Wheal (22.26).
