2020 Pac-12 Women’s Championships Day 2 Finals: Abbey Weitzeil Swims Meet Record 21.03 50 Free

The 2020 Pac-12 Women’s Championships continued on Thursday with the meet’s full finals session.

Cal had seven make tonight’s finals, while Stanford had six and Arizona State had five.

The 500 freestyle, 200 IM and 50 freestyle are on the docket, as well as 1-meter diving and the 200 free relay.

After the first day, Cal and USC were tied for the lead with 120 points. Stanford is third at 108, followed by Arizona State (98), Arizona (98), Washington State (90) and Utah (90).

Pac-12 Women’s Championships: 500 Free

Arizona State came in with the top three seeds in the 500 free, but went 1-3-7 in the finals.

Junior Emma Nordin won the race in 4:33.74 to hold off Stanford sophomore Morgan Tankersley (4:35.99).

Arizona State’s Cierra Runge took third at 4:36.06, a second ahead of Stanford’s Brooke Forde (4:37.09).

Two more Cardinal followed as Lauren Pitzer was fifth (4:37.19) and Erin Voss was sixth (4:39.81).

Arizona State’s Erica Laning was seventh in 4:40.44, followed by Cal’s Robin Neumann (4:41.36).

Pac-12 Women’s Championships: 200 IM

USC’s Louise Hansson held off a late charge by Cal’s Izzy Ivey to win the 200 IM.

Hansson touched the wall in 1:54.09 to finish ahead of Ivey (1:54.67). Hansson’s time was the eight-fastest in the NCAA this season.

Cal’s Alicia Wilson finished third at 1:55.85, just ahead of teammate Keaton Blovad (1:55.88) as the Golden Bears went 2-3-4 behind Hansson.

USC’s Tatum Wade finished fifth in 1:56.19, followed by UCLA’s Kenisha Liu (1:57.37) and Delaney Smith (1:58.44) and Arizona State’s Nora Deleske (1:59.13).

Pac-12 Women’s Championships: 50 Free

Cal’s Abbey Weitzeil lowered her Pac-12 meet record from the prelims to win the 50 free in 21.03, finishing well ahead of the field.

Weitzeil is the NCAA record holder with a 20.90 clocked earlier this season. She swam a 21.09 in prelims.

USC’s Marta Ciesla finished second in 21.86, followed by Stanford’s Anya Goeders (21.91) and Cal’s Maddie Murphy (22.14).

UCLA’s Claire Grover finished fifth (22.18), followed by Arizona State’s Camryn Curry (22.25), Cal’s Eloise Riley (22.33) and Stanford’s Emma Wheal (22.42).

UCLA’s Ruby Neave won 1-meter diving with 329.30 points to hold off Stanford’s Mia Paulsen (325.65) and Carolina Sculti (324.85).

USC’s Morenike Agunbiade was fourth (302.80) just ahead of Stanford’s Daria Lenz (302.30).

200 Free Relay

Cal’s sprint freestyle dominance continued as the Golden Bears won the 200 free relay in 1:27.22 — without Abbey Weitzeil — led by Eloise Riley, Keaton Blovad, Maddie Murphy and Izzy Ivey.

Stanford’s Anya Goeders, Lauren Pitzer, Amalie Fackenthal and Emma Wheal took second in 1:28.32, just ahead of USC’s Marta Ciesla, Laticia Transom, Jemma Schlicht and Tatum Wade (1:28.44).
