2019 Santa Clara International Day 1: Tessa Cieplucha Wins 800 Free

The first night of the 2019 Santa Clara International is underway at the George Haines International Swim Center. The meet began with the distance events. Both the women and the men swam the 800 free today with some major conviction.

Women’s 800 Free

In first was Tessa Cieplucha of Swim Ontario with a time of 8:42.75 She was followed in a tight race by Summer Smith of Bluefish Swim Club (8:45.12) and Megan Byrnes of Alto Swim Club (8:45.15). In fourth was Daniella Hawkins of Pleasanton Seahawks in a time of 8:54.07. In fifth and sixth was Nicole Olivia of Santa Clara Swim Club (8:57.54) and Yi Xuan Chang of Stamford Sailfish Aquatic Club (9:06.07). Rounding out the top eight were Anna Hein of Bluefish Swim Club (9:06.41) and Virginie Qian of Santa Clara Swim Club (9:14.94).

Men’s 800 Free

In first of the men’s 800 free at the 2019 Santa Clara International was Lleton Plattel of Pleasanton Seahawks in a time of 8:14.73. In second was Alexander Axon of Swim Ontario in a time of 8:29.64. He was followed by Matthew Chung of Santa Clara Swim Club (8:31.67), David Mertz of Neptune Swimming (8:33.11) and Calvin David of Pleasanton Seahawks in a time of 8:37.95. Matthew Driscoll of De Anza Cupertino Aquatics was sixth with a time of 8:41.60. Michael Wheeler of Orinda Aquatics was seventh with a time of 8:42.47 and Andrew Wang of Pleasanton Seahawks was eighth with a time of 8:42.54.
