2019 Futures Championships Mt. Hood Day 2: Kathryn Krolikowski, Zachary Van Zandt Add To Podium Finishes

The second day of the 2019 Futures Championships at Mt. Hood, Oregon saw competition in the 200 free, 100 breast, 100 fly, 400 IM and 400 free relay. This meet is taking place at the Mt. Hood Aquatic Center from August 1-4.

Tonights events saw two tied finishes with many swimmers collecting their first title of the meet. Tualatin Hills Swim Club is comfortably atop the team score chart, with a lead of more than 200 points.

Team Scores

At the end of the second night of finals, Tualatin Hills Swim Club leads on both the men’s and women’s side. The top overall team scores are as follows:

  1. Tualatin Hills Swim Club (399)
  2. Palo Alto Stanford Aquatics (167)
  3. Dart Swimming (166.5)
  4. North Bay Aquatics (165)
  5. Irvine Novaquatics (143.5)

Women’s 200 Free

Lily Gardner of Tualatin Hills took home the first victory of the day in a time of 2:03.24, dropping almost a second and a half from the prelims. In second place was Aquazot’s Kathryn Krolikowski clocking in at 2:03.75 while Tualatin Hills’ Elizabeth Cook was close behind (2:04.00) to take third place.

Taylor Kabacy of Seattle Metropolitan was 0.08 behind to take fourth place (2:04.08), while Tualatin Hills’ Ryan Falk nabbed fifth place (2:04.86). Eva Suggs of Boise YMCA finished sixth in a time of 2:05.02, followed by La Mirada Armada’s Courtney Tseng (2:05.66) and Mission Viejo Nadadore’s Natalie Oien (2:07.84).

Men’s 200 Free

17-year-old Zachary Van Zandt of Ccat Swimming won the gold in a time of 1:51.72, winning by over a second. Daniel Ilin of Wolverine Aquatics finished in second place with a time of 1:52.99, while Tualatin Hills’ Trenton Martinez finished third (1:53.52).

In fourth place was Lakeridge’s Christopher Miller clocking in at 1:54.43, while Tualatin Hill’s Samuel Donchi finished fifth (1:54.97) and Pacific Swim’s Jacob Sauter finished sixth (1:55.41). Lakeridge’s Luke Hobson (1:55.70) and Dart Swimming’s Eric Fierro (1:57.54) rounded out the championship final.

Women’s 100 Breast

University of Nevada’s Donna Depolo took home the title with a time of 1:10.56. 16-year-old Natalie Bercutt of UCD Aquamonsters took runner-up honors with a time of 1:11.01 while Ana Adame of Canyons Aquatic Club finished third (1:11.55).

Halle Morris of North Bay Aquatics won the battle for fourth place with a time of 1:12.96, to narrowly beat out Voltage Aquatics’ Andrea Perttula (1:13.01),  Lakeridge’s Madeline Lewis (1:13.07), and Burlingame Aquatic Club’s Larisa Tam (1:13.10). UCD’s Victoria Kaleta (1:13.81) also swam in the championship final.

Men’s 100 Breast

Dart Swimming’s Tom Higdon won the gold clocking in at 1:04.17, to win a close race in which the top five were separated by a second. Justin Lum of Buenaventura Swim Club came in second with a time of 1:04.47, while Jackson Mason of North Bay Aquatics finished third (1:04.58).

Parker Greene of Capital Swimming finished fourth with a time of 1:04.95, while Pacific Swimming’s Noah Snyder (1:05.40) and Socal Aquatics’ Anthony Fitzgerald (1:05.64) nabbed fifth and sixth place respectively. Dart’s Tommaso Townsend came seventh (1:05.72) and Palo Alto Stanford Aquatics’ Lucas Walker (1:06.48) came eighth.

Women’s 100 Fly

Eleanor Beers of Bainbrigdge Island Swim Club won a tightly contested race in a time of 1:01.86, dropping almost a second from her morning swim. Tualatin Hill’s Elizabeth Cook took silver with a time of 1:01.94, while Dart’s Sanne Dequine clocked in at 1:02.60 for bronze.

Bainbrigde’s Margaret Hayes took fourth place (1:02.67) with Tualatin Hill’s Lily Gardner finishing fifth (1:03.14). Bend’s Anneliese Husaby finished a joint sixth (1:03.53) touching the wall at the same time as Irvine Novaquatics’ Mia Ristic. All of the swimmers in this final were under 18.

Men’s 100 Fly

Patrick Park swimming for Fast Swim Team was the only swimmer under 55 today as he took home the win in a time of 54.88. Patrick Keough of University Place Aquatic Club finished second (55.08) and Ccat’s Zachary Van Zandt, who won the 200 free earlier today, finished third (55.15).

In fourth place was Lake Oswego’s Neirton Oliveria with a time of 55.96, while Tri-city Channel’s Skyler Younkin grabbed fifth place (56.22). Bay’s Ian Carsten and Canyon Aquatics’ Kevin Childs took joint sixth (56.57). Rancho San Dieguito’s Mason Morris (56.73) rounded out the championship final.

Women’s 400 IM

Aquazot’s Kathryn Krolikowski added to her earlier podium finish with a time of 4:54.36. Finishing second was unattached Ella Kirschke (4:57.35) while unattached Delaney Smith finished third (4:59.80) to also get under the 5 minute mark.

Emma Matous of Tualatin Hills took fourth in a time of 5:01.35, while La Mirada Armada’s Maelynn Lawrence finished fifth (5:02.62). Seattle Metropolitan’s Maisy Barbosa (5:03.34), North Coast’s Sophia Ryan (5:08.66) and Tualatin Hills’ Katherine Adams (5:18.68) also swam in the championship final.

Men’s 400 IM

Mission Viejo Nadadore’s Davis Taylor emerged victorious in a time of 4:29.84. Tualatin Hill’s Marco Nosack dropped over four seconds to take home the silver (4:31.31) while Bend’s Brenden Reeves took the bronze (4:35.07).

Unattached Connor Rodgers finished fourth (4:35.12), followed by Mt. Hood Aquatics’ Owen Ngan (4:36.03), Tualatin Hill’s Diego Nosack (4:36.32), Wave Aquatics’ Alexandru Omusoru (4:40.94) and Quicksilver Swimming’s Mason Carlton (4:42.57).

Women’s 400 Free Relay

Tualatin Hills Swim Club’s team of Elizabeth Cook, Jessica Maeda, Tia Lindsay and Lily Gardner took home the title in a time of 3:53.11. The team from North Bay Aquatics (3:54.32) finished second, while Palo Alto Stanford Aquatics (3:55.08) took third place.

Men’s 400 Free Relay

The quartet from North Bay Aquatics comprising of Jackson Mason, Gabriel Giascoppo, Justin Wong and Max Sternberg emerged victorious with a time of 3:30.57. In second place was the team from De Anza Cupertino Aquatics (3:31.65), while the team from Tualatin Hills Swim Club (3:32.57) finished third.

The 2019 Futures Championships Mt. Hood continues tomorrow with the 200 fly, 50 free, 200 breast, 100 back and 400 free. The prelims will begin at 9am PDT while the finals will start at 5pm PDT.
