2019 Futures Championships Geneva Day 4: Emma Brinton Doubles Up IM Wins

The 2019 Futures Championships at Geneva came to an end. The last events of the meet taking place at the SPIRE institute included the 100 free, men’s 800 free, 200 back, women’s 1500, 200 IM and the 400 medley relays. Pool records and close race finishes filled in the final day.

Emma Brinton from Duquesne University won the 200 IM after taking the gold in the 400 IM on day two of competition.

Team Scores

The concluding day of competition didn’t kept the lead away from Phoenix Swimming on the women’s side. On the men’s side, Empire Swimming upset Club Mountaineer Aquatics for the first place.

Women’s 100 Free

Current Duke’s Blue Devil Quinn Scannell from Badger Swim Club claimed her third individual win tonight. She swam a 57.05 to take the gold. The Fish’s Allison Martin finished second with a 57.81. Crile Hart from Cleveland Swim Institute went home with the bronze in a 57.84.

Catherine Stanford from Long Beach Aquatics placed fourth (57.96), followed by Webster Swim Association’s Antonia Naccarella (58.83) and Phoenix Swimming’s Carol-lena Breiter (58.92).

Olivia Livingston from Jewish Communisty Ctr Sailfish (58.95) and Spider Swimming’s Eliza Manning (59.02) rounded up the championship final.

Men’s 100 Free

Thacher Scannell gave Greenwich Marlins its first title of the meet with a 51.88. Hudson Explorer Aquatic’s Jay Johnson went home with the silver in a 52.09. Closely after Christopher O’Shea from Club Mountaineer Aquatics brought it home with a 52.10, followed by teammate Samuel Neaveill (52.16).

Former Penn State swimmer Matthew Salig from Mercersburg Academy placed fifth (52.27), followed by unattached swimmers Alec Lawless (52.38) and Matthew Fadel (52.40).

The Fish’s Aiken Do (53.09) completed the top eight.

Men’s 800 Free

Scarlet Aquatics’s Kyle Iorizzo went home with the victory and a pool record in a 8:19.35. Adam Zapatka from Charter Oak Aquatic Club got the silver in a 8:19.35. The bronze belonged to Zachary Washart from Greater Philadelphia Aquatic Club who swam a 8:23.80.

Victor Swim Club’s James Baker finished fourth (8:25.56), followed by unattached swimmer John Sita (8:26.24). Ethan Shaw from Dublin Community Swim Team came in sixth (8:26.59).

Liam Bogart from Empire Swimming (8:26.79) and Crimson Aquatics’s Andrew Berzolla (8:27.14) placed seventh and eigth respectively.

Women’s 200 Back

Nys Aquatics’s Lauren Aylmer won the event with a 2:16.76. Kathleen Lynch from Team Pittsburgh Elite Aquatics went home with the silver in a 2:17.45. Phoenix Swimming’s Emily Clements came soon after in a 2:17.82.

Victoria Buerger from Alleghery North Swim Club placed fourth (2:18.01), followed by Delaware Swim Team’s Sydney Debaecke (2:18.18). Empire Swimming’s Mary Rotenberg claimed the sixth place (2:19.13).

The seventh and eighth place belonged to Phoenix Swimming’s Jenna Charlat (2:19.58) and Devon Muldoon from Cougar Aquatic Team (2:20.83).

Men’s 200 Back

Liam Bogart from Empire Swimming went home with the title in a 2:04.40. The Fish’s James Ewing came in second with a 2:05.32. Judd Fishman from Team Pittsburgh Elite Aquatics got the bronze in a 2:06.76.

David Rucci from Greater Philadelphia Aquatic Club finished fourth (2:07.23), followed by Coast Guard Blue Dolphins’s Clayton Whetstine (2:07.57). Lawrence Redmond from Nation’s Capital Swim Club placed sixth (2:07.80).

Crimson Aquatics’s John McEachern (2:08.36) andTrayton Saladin from Club Mountaineer Aquatics (2:16.96) also swam in the championship final.

Women’s 1500 Free

After two second places in the 400 and 800 free Brooke Travis from Nation’s Capital Swim Club finally earns a win. She swam a 17:05.34 for the gold. Connecticut Aquatic Club’s Ella Dyjak went home with the silver in a 17:11.56. Maya Geringer from United Swim Association took the bronze in a 17:15.59, almost dropping 12 seconds.

Julia Johnson from Lake Erie Silver Dolphins placed fourth (17:21.45), followed by Cape Cod Swim Club’s Tessa Mock (17.21.70). Scarlet Aquatics’s Kate Hurst finished sixth (17:24.62).

Anna Kalandadze from Radnor Aquatic Club (17:29.00) and Dayton Raiders’s Elizabeth Quarin (17:29.73) rounded up the championship final.

Women’s 200 IM

Duquesne University’s IM star Emma Brinton brought it home once again. She won the event in a 2:18.25. Isabella Paoletti from Delaware Swim Team swam a 2:18.98 to claim the silver. Dakota Elliott from Team Pittsburgh Elite Aquatics got the bronze in a 2:19.03.

Victoria Buerger from Allegheny North Swim Club finished fourth (2:20.69), followed by Spider Swimming’s Eliza Manning (2:20.69). Hudson Explorer Aquatic’s Giovanna Cappabianca came in sixth (2:21.31).

Emma Menzer from Delaware Swim Team (2:21.38) and unattached swimmer Jessica Pryne (2:22.86) completed the top eight.

Men’s 200 IM

Dayton Raiders’s Thomas House takes the gold with a 2:06.29, closely followed by Navy Swimming’s Ethan Tack who swam a 2:06.34. The bronze belonged to Ian Van Gorp from Mason Manta Rays (2:07.12).

Dayton Raiders’s Nathan Holty came in fourth (2:07.32), followed by Matthew McGoey from Bison Aquatics Club (2:07.92). Former Nittany Lion Matthew Salig from Mercersburg Academy claimed the sixth place (2:08.35). Dayton Raiders’s James Edge and Josh Harlan from Club Mountaineer Aquatics tied for seventh (2:09.03).

Women’s 400 Medley Relay

Delaware Swim Team’s Catherine Weaverling, Emma Menzer, Georgia Colborn and Isabella Paoletti claimed the first place as they clocked in a 4:19.94.

The silver belonged to Mary Rotenberg, Josephine Panitz, Mikayla Klein and Madison Hartigan from Empire swimming (4:21.56). SoCo Aquatic Club’s Kayla Mendonca, Angela Gambardella, Jordan Macdonald and Norah Rome got the bronze in a 4:21.60.

Men’s 400 Medley Relay

The Empire Swimming boys broke the pool record in the event. Liam Bogart, John Kelly, Jonathan Ma and Timothy Cushman won the event by almost five seconds in a 3:50.74.

Jake Young, Nicholas Diangelo, Braden Osborn and Ian Van Gorp from Mason Manta Rays finished second with a 3:55.42. Hudson Explorer Aquatic’s Alexander Cimera, Caleb Tuckerman, Jacob Tuckerman and Jay Johnson went home with the bronze in a 3:58.16.
