2019 French Championship Day 5: Charlotte Bonnet Claims Title in 100 Free

Day five of the 2019 French Championship Meet is completed, with only one day remaining for swimmers to achieve their cut times. The theme of fast swimming continues with more cut times achieved and personal bests of the year set at today’s meet. Events for day five included the Men’s 800 free, Women’s 100 free, Men’s 200 back, and the Men and Women’s 200 breast.

Highlights of the day included French record holder Charlotte Bonnet repeating her title in the 100 free. On the men’s side Antoine Marc, fifth seed, upset the field in the 200 breast claiming first.

LIVE RESULTS

Men’s 800 Free

Dominating the competition was David Aubry of Montpellier Metropole in the time of 7:46.30. In second from was Marc-Antoine Oliver of Denain Nat. Door of Hainaut touching in 7:53.12. Third went to Joris Bouchaut of Stage of Vanves in 7:54.19. Just missing third was Damien Joly (7:54.89). Also claiming spots among the top eight were Paul Beaugrand (7:59.37) fifth, Tommy-Lee Camblong (8:00.62) sixth, Logan Fountain (8:11.24) seventh, and Logan Vanhuys (8:15.07) eighth.

Women’s 100 Free

Hitting the wall first was French record holder Charlotte Bonnet of Olympic Nice in the time of 53.29, less than a second off of her own record. The top four also made FINA “A cut” times, with Beryl Gastaldello of CN Marseille hitting second in 53.84. Third’s Marie Wattel of Montepellier Metropole clocked in at 54.29, and fourth’s Lena Bousquin would just make the Fina A cut touching at 54.45. In fifth was Anouchka Martin (54.49), sixth Margaux Farbe (54.62), seventh Faustine Prouff (55.75), and eighth Assia Touati (56.00).

Men’s 200 Back

Touching first, just off of the FINA A cut time was Geoffroy Mathieu of Stadium Clermont in 1:58.86. In second from Dolphins Toulouse was Antoine Herlem in 2:00.62. In a close race, Christophe Brun of CN Antibes would hit third just behind Herlem in 2:00.66. Rounding out the top eight was Mewen Tomac (2:00.71) in fourth, Maxence Orange (2:00.89) fifth, Souhaiel Chatti (2:01.70) sixth, Milan Vlaovic (2:01.70) seventh, and Simon Brief (2:02.88) eighth.

Women’s 200 Breast

In a close race for first, Fanny Deberghes of ASPTT Montpellier would take the title clocking in at 2:25.60 just shy of the French record set at 2:25.19, but making a FINA A cut standard. Camille Dauba of CN Sarreguemines would join Deberghes for a FINA A cut time touching just behind at 2:25.69. Hitting third was Fantine Lesaffre of Stage of Vanves in 2:26.48. Fourth was Justine Delmas (2:30.35), fifth Charlotte Simon (2:31.26), sixth Lise Michels (2:32.02), seventh Lara Grangeon (2:32.06), and eighth Lucie Delmas (2:34.09).

Men’s 200 Breast

Antoine Marc of Mulhouse ON surprised the field moving from his fifth place seed to claim first in a time of 2:12.08. Jeremy Desplanches of Olympic Nice finished second in 2:12.45. Claiming his spot in the top three was Antoine Viquerat of Dolphins Toulouse in the time of 2:12.52. Top seed Thibaut Captain dropped to fourth (2:12.72), Thomas Boursac Cervera Lortet was fifth (2:13.46), Jean Dencausse sixth (2:14.62), Clement Bidard seventh (2:15.10), and Leon Marchand eighth (2:15.49).
