Jenny Mensing, Giulio Zorzi Uncork Swift Times at Slovakian Grand Prix

BRATISLAVA, Slovakia, May 25. THE Slovakian Grand Prix came to an end with a handful of meet records taking a tumble on the finale day of competition in Bratislava.

Jenny Mensing ripped off a meet record time in the women’s 100-meter back for the win in 1:00.83. That time downed her previous record of 1:01.19 from prelims. It also just missed her 18th-ranked season best of 1:00.50 from German Nationals as she demonstrated some consistency regardless of her current training load. Karin Tomeckova took second in 1:03.29 with Vera Koprivova finishing a close third in 1:03.79.

Giulio Zorzi moved to the outskirts of the top 20 in the world in the men’s 50-meter breaststroke with a winning time of 27.92 after setting a meet record with a 27.81 in prelims. The top 20 is currently anchored by Brazil’s Raphael Rodrigues, who posted a 27.74 at the Maria Lenk Trophy meet in Sao Paulo. Marek Botik took second tonight in 28.41 with Matej Kuchar finishing third in 28.61.

Katarina Listopadova took down the third meet record of the night with a 59.03 in the women’s 100-meter fly. That effort cleared the 59.12 set by Inge Dekker back in 2007. Claudia Hufnagl touched second in 1:02.52, while Laura Meza wound up third in 1:02.69. Barbora Misendova topped the juniors finale in 1:00.92.

Stefan Sorak took home the men’s 200-meter free title in 1:52.21 with Martin Bao placing second in 1:54.69. Pavol Jelenak hit the wall third in 1:55.02. Gabor Balog picked up the men’s 100-meter back crown in 56.99, while David Kuncar took second in 57.57. Rostislav Kubicky placed third in 59.21. Notably, Czeh’s Ales Maly clocked a 57.39 in the juniors finale.

Marek Polach captured the men’s 200-meter IM crown in 2:09.04 with Pavol Jelenak earning a second podium with a second-place time of 2:09.66. Krystian Balabuch earned third in 2:10.09. Michal Poprawa won the men’s 100-meter fly in 54.13 with Lubos Grznar taking second in 54.89. Gianni Ferrero rounded out the top three in 55.10.

Birgit Koschischek cruised to victory in the women’s 50-meter breaststroke with a 32.05 for the win. Dalma Sebestyen finished second in 32.49 with Eva Jordova taking third in 32.68. Annika Bruhn put up a 2:01.67 to win the women’s 200-meter free in dominating fashion. Ionela Cosma touched second in 2:05.33 with Claudia Hufnagl finishing third in 2:05.57.

Sebestyen returned in the women’s 200-meter IM with a 2:16.18 for the win. Barbora Krizanova (2:26.65) and Katharina Himmler (2:26.94) touched second and third. Andrea Podmanikova won the juniors finale in 2:20.63.

Gergo Kis claimed the men’s 1500-meter freestyle timed final in 15:18.70. He’s been way faster this year with a seventh-ranked 15:01.71 from the Milan Trophy in Italy. Richard Nagy took second in 15:32.76 with Martin Bau earning third in 15:55.82. Veronika Kolnikova followed with a 17:27.63 to win the women’s 1500-meter free. Patricia Holla (18:06.07) and Michaela Ulipova (18:24.87) took second and third, while Carmen Mikusova topped the juniors with an 18:02.05.
