Poland’s Mateusz Chaba Banned One Year for Positive Doping Test

LAUSANNE, Switzerland, May 21. FOLLOWING a successful FINA appeal, Poland’s Mateusz Chaba has been banned a year from competition for a positive doping test.

Chaba tested positive for 2-amino-N-ethyl-1-phenylbutan (Class S.6.b Specified Stimulants) on June 16 of last summer at the Polish Swimming Championships in Olszytn. Initially, the Polish Swimming Federation elected to ban Chaba for six months, but FINA appeals for a harsher penalty and secured a one-year ban retroactive to June 16, 2013. That means that Chaba will be able to compete in just a few weeks having already served his time.

Chaba, who competed for Slask Wroclaw at Polish Nationals had swum in the 50 free, 100 free, 50 fly, 100 fly and been part of the 400 free relay has already had those times retroactively removed from nationals and recorded as a DQ in Poland’s official results. Chaba had made the championship final in the 50 fly and the consolation final in the 50 free.

Particularly interesting for Chaba is that he is seen as one of the poster children for a Mariola Kurzcynska who put Chaba up as one of what Kurzcynska calls a Legal Doping Athlete because of Biofeedback techniques.
