Axel Pettersson Rewrites Swedish Junior Backstroke Records at Swedish Grand Prix

JONKOPING, Sweden, April 28. SWEDEN’s Axel Pettersson rewrote the backstroke records in the Swedish Junior charts at the Swedish Grand Prix in Jonkoping this weekend.

Pettersson kicked off the meet with a 56.17 in the men’s 100-meter back prelims, besting his previous Junior mark of 56.35. He finished off that night with a 56.70 to win the 100 back title.

Pettersson returned in the men’s 50-meter back with a 26.18 in prelims. That effort undercut his Junior record of 26.35 from a month ago. He did just enough for the win in finals with a 26.44 as he had an easy speed win in that event.

Pettersson swept the backstroke events in Jonkoping with another Junior record as he popped a 2:00.41 in the men’s 200-meter back for the win. That performance eclipsed the 2010 record of 2:00.72 set by current Swedish record holder Mattias Carlsson. Carlsson currently owns the senior record with a 1:59.29 from earlier this month.
