Danielle Lowe Doubles, Danas Rapsys Wins Second Event At Irish Nationals

DUBLIN, Ireland, April 25. DANIELLE Lowe doubled and Danas Rapsys won his second event of the meet to highlight the second evening of finals at the Irish Long Course National Championships at the National Aquatic Centre in Dublin.

Lithuania’s Danas Rapsys started off the second night of finals with a win in the men’s 100 back, his second individual win of the meet. Last night Rapsys won the 200 free, and tonight he topped the 100 back in 56.53. David Prendergast touched second in 58.79, while Eimantas Milius rounded out the top three in 59.06. Meanwhile, Danielle Lowe topped the women’s 100 back field in 1:04.21, off her semifinal time of 1:03.10 but still well ahead of Tara Dunne (1:05.55) and Emma Cassidy (1:05.92).

After finishing third in the 200 fly last night, Ben Griffin ascended to the top of the podium in the men’s 400 IM tonight with a winning time of 4:31.76. He finished well ahead of James Brown’s 4:35.05 and Benjamin Doyle’s 4:35.73. Danielle Lowe earned her second win of the night with a convincing victory in the women’s distance medley. Lowe won by almost ten seconds, touching in 4:49.52 to outdistance Shani Stallard (4:59.33) and Antoinette Neamt (5:02.67).

In semifinal action, Jordan Sloane (100 free, 51.21), Melanie Houghton (100 free, 58.51; 50 fly, 27.33), Nicholas Quinn (100 breast, 1:02.94), Fiona Doyle (100 breast, 1:09.63) and Deividas Margevicius (50 fly, 24.69) enter tomorrow’s finals as the top seeds in their respective events.
