Brazil Hits 13-Year-Old Swimmer With Four-Month Doping Ban

RIO DE JANEIRO, Brazil, January 9. THE drug Methylhexanamine hit yet another swimmer with the Brazilian Swimming Federation shutting down a 13-year-old swimmer for four months after a positive test according to our Brazilian correspondent Alex Pussieldi.

Pussieldi explains that the swimmer tested positive at the Brazilian Age Group Nationals Nov. 14-17 of last year, but that the club and name of the swimmer have been withheld due to the age of the athlete.

This is the 24th doping case in Brazilian Swimming history according to Pussieldi, and Brazil has yet to finish with a clean record in any year since 2003.

Methylhexanamine continues to hit swimmers with some regularity with the likes of Vladislav Shuliko (one year), Mikhail Dovgaluk (one year), Arjun Muralidharan (two years) and Igor Akhlustin (two years) being recent swimmers to have drawn more substantial bans than the unidentified Brazlian teen.

The Class S.6 Stimulant is often found in energy supplements, and previously had been listed as the synonym 1,3-dimethylamylamine on the banned substance list. That’s one of the reasons why Sean Mahoney drew a six-month ban for the substance back in 2010.
