Jane Katz, 70, Has Swum At Every Maccabiah Games Since 1957

PHOENIX, Arizona, November 18. RECENTLY, The Jewish Daily Forward featured Jane Katz, a 70-year-old swimmer who has competed in every Maccabiah Games since her first swim in Israel’s pinnacle meet 14 editions ago in 1957.

The quick-hitting article describes how Katz picked up 13 medals this past summer, with 11 from Masters competition as well as two in relay competition for Team USA.

At just 14 years of age, Katz competed in her first Maccabiah Games, and has been going to Israel every four years ever since.

“As a person, I am proud to be of the Jewish faith. I am proud of my heritage.” Katz told the Forward. “I’m always talking about it, and I’m always talking about the Maccabiah Games… Hopefully it will create a more peaceful world. Sports are the common denominator. That’s what these games help to do.”
