Ye Shiwen Captures 200 Back During Day One at Chinese Nationals

HUANGSHAN, China, October 25. YE Shiwen opened what is a sparsely-attended Chinese National Swimming Championships with a win in the women’s 200-meter backstroke event. Ye, the world record holder in the 400-meter IM from the London Olympics, is one of the few big guns here in Huangshan. Many of the other Chinese National Teamers have elected to miss the meet after a full docket of high-pressure swims that included the World Championships and the Chinese National Games.

Ye won the 200 back in 2:11.51, while Fu Yuanhui picked up second in 2:12.60. Chen Jie rounded out the top three in 2:12.61.

Mao Feilian followed with a 1:01.82 to 1:01.88 touchout triumph ahead of Xie Zhi in the men’s 100-meter breaststroke. Wang Shuai finished just a bit behind with a third-place effort of 1:02.60. In another close contest, Liu Xiaoyu clipped Suo Ran at the wall, 31.74 to 31.80, in the women’s 50-meter breaststroke He Yuzhe wound up third in 32.00.

Shen Duo dominated the women’s 100-meter freestyle finale with a time of 55.46, while Wang Shengnan (56.30) and Zhang Jiaqi (56.73) snared second and third in the event. Shi Yi also crushed the competition in the men’s 200 IM with a 2:01.98. Chen Mengchang placed well behind with a second-place 2:03.56, while Qian Zhiyong picked up third in 2:03.83.

The men’s 1500 free certainly missed some serious star power with Sun Yang bypassing the meet. Wang Shun won the finale in 15:22.81, while Wu Yuhang (15:23.73) and Ge Junhai (15:31.44) took second and third. Sun Mengyue followed with a 2:10.31 to top the women’s 200-meter fly. Zhang Yufei (2:11.25) and Zhang Yuhan (2:11.86) had a close call for second.

Zhejiang finished a strong day for the province with a 7:22.64 to win the men’s 800 free relay. Jiangsu (7:27.59) and Beijing (7:28.79) rounded out the podium.
