Sun Yang’s Mom: I’m Not Expecting Him in 400 Medley Relay

SHENYANG, China, September 8. WHILE the Chinese media made a big push about Olympic star Sun Yang making a run at seven gold medals at the Chinese National Games, Sun’s mother Ming Yang is blaming that all on the media according to reports out of China.

“Sun Yang himself did not say he had plans for seven events,” Ming Yang said as roughly translated. “On the last day of competition, he wants to focus on the 1500 free. The medley relay is shortly after that, and he may not be able to participate in it.”

Sun’s mother revealed in an interview with a local Chinese television network that her son is already tired after his fifth medal of the meet with wins in the 200 and 400 freestyles as well as the 400 and 800 free relays. He also picked up a bronze in the 100 free tonight, and is slated for the 1500 free and potentially the 400 medley relay later this week.

Sun’s mother also explained that her son has a cold after returning from the World Championships less than a month ago, and is battling through this week’s competition.
