Olympic Gold Medalist Matt McLean Latest to Join NBAC Army

BALTIMORE, Maryland, September 2. OLYMPIC gold medalist Matt McLean, just days after Lotte Friis announced she was changing her training base to North Baltimore Aquatic Club, has also made the switch to swim for head coach Bob Bowman.

McLean made the move known via Twitter today.

With Mark Bernardino leaving Virginia, McLean was definitely in need of a change of scenery, and NBAC isn’t a bad place to be with the likes of freestyle studs Yannick Agnel and Conor Dwyer to train against in workouts on a daily basis.

After being a strong collegiate swimmer for the Cavaliers as a 15-time All-American, McLean had a breakout year in the long course pool in 2012 as he wound up helping the U.S. to gold in the 800-meter freestyle relay at the 2012 London Olympics as a prelim swimmer. This summer, he added world champion to his resume by helping the same relay to gold in Barcelona.

His performances of late also scored him a deal with Arena as he signed an apparel sponsorship deal with the brand recently.

NBAC’s post-grad program continues to grow with new additions being announced regularly. Tom Luchsinger also has made the switch to train for Bowman, giving NBAC another Arena athlete.
