Jemma Lowe Leads Strong Times Out of Great Britain Today

SHEFFIELD, Great Britain, June 29. TWO-time Olympian Jemma Lowe raced her way to a World Championship roster spot with a sizzling 100-meter butterfly performance at the British Nationals tonight.

Lowe clinched her spot on the Worlds roster with a winning time of 58.02 in the women's 100-meter fly, moving her into a tie for 10th in the world with Australian Brittany Elmslie. Rachael Kelly, meanwhile, took second in 58.49 and fell victim to Britain's harsh selection system. Her time cleared the FINA A cut of 58.89, but missed Britain's tougher selection standard of 58.32. Tilly Gray wound up third in 59.40.

Both Roberto Pavoni and Ieuan Lloyd managed to beat the British selection standard in the men's 200-meter IM as Pavoni won in 1:58.14 and Lloyd took second in 1:58.63. Pavoni moved to ninth in the world with his swim as the duo punched their tickets to Barcelona. Daniel Wallace claimed third in 1:59.00.

Another pair of swimmers surpassed the British mark in the women's 100-meter back with Lauren Quigley nearly breaking 1:00 with a winning 1:00.07, while Georgia Davies touched in 1:00.13. Jessica Fullalove just missed making the Worlds roster with a third-place effort of 1:00.48.

In one of the deepest heats of the evening, Sophie Allen pounced on the women's 200-meter IM title with a 2:11.34, while Bath University teammate Siobhan-Marie O'Connor touched second in 2:12.12. Hannah Miley, who had a 2:11.59 from the British International meet in March, fell to third in 2:12.77.

In multi-class events, Stephanie Slater led the way in the women's 50-meter free S8 with a 31.22, while Amy Marren topped the S9 division in 30.18. Hannah Russell paced the S12 group with a 28.07, while Alice Tai won the S10 division in 30.60. For the men, Matt Walker won the S7 in 28.75, while James Clegg raced to a 25.52 in the S12 division. Matt Wylie clocked a 28.04 to lead the S9 division, while James Hollis (26.85) and James Pout (31.37) won the S10 and S8 divisions, respectively.

In the 100-meter breaststroke multi-class events, Nicole Lough won the women's SB14 with a 1:20.12, while Charlotte Henshaw clocked a 1:40.86 to lead the SB6 division. Claire Cashmore checked in with a 1:23.16 in the SB8 division, while Emma Hollis won the SB7 in 1:42.32. Amy Marren touched in 1:42.32 in the SB9 division to round out the women's winners. Scott Quin (1:10.20) and Jamie Warriner (1:18.38) won the men's SB14 and SB9 divisions, respectively.

In semifinal action, Adam Brown topped the men's 100-meter free in 48.99, while Moly Renshaw clocked a 2:27.82 to pace the women's 200-meter breaststroke. Ross Murdoch nearly cleared 1:00 in the men's 100-meter breast with a 1:00.01, while Michael Rock threw down a 51.91 to lead the men's 100-meter fly. Fran Halsall clocked a 54.39 for the top seed in the women's 100-meter free, while Chris Walker-Hebborn hit the wall in 1:57.73 to lead the men's 200-meter back.
