Behind the Scenes Sports Science Video at Australian Nationals

ADELAIDE, Australia, May 2. AN incredible amount of energy goes into ensuring that athletes will perform to the best of their abilities. In the above video from Sports Science, Swimming Australia's Jessica Corones talks through the science of performance and the tools used to keep Australian swimmers swimming fast.

From recovery programs to comparative analyses, the entire process begins once a swimmer's race is completed. Swimming Australia employs a team of 30 sports scientists to monitor their athletes' warm-up, take post-race lactate measurements and compose comparison reports analyzing stroke rate, splits, etc. The data is then synthesized into an individual plan for the next race.

“We are always looking at ways to improve performance,” Corones says.
