Australian Short Course Championships: Kenneth To Unleashes Aussie Record in 100 IM

PERTH, Australia, September 16. KENNETH To put a bow on what has been a sterling meet for the man representing Trinity Grammar at the Australia Short Course Championships. To concluded his meet with an Australian record in the sprint medley event.

To rocketed to a 51.64 in the finale, lowering both his Australian record of 51.93 set last year to win this title. He also downed the All Comers standard of 51.81 set by Ryk Neethling back in 2005. His swim jumped him to seventh all time in the event, ahead of Michael Phelps' now eighth-ranked 51.65. Only Peter Mankoc (50.76), Ryan Lochte (50.81), Sergey Fesikov (50.95), Gerhard Zandberg (51.05), Duje Draganja (51.20) and Neethling (51.52) have been faster. Tommaso D'Orsogna finished second tonight in 52.66, while Sam Beinke claimed third in 54.00.

OTHER FINALS
Matthew Abood raced to victory in the men's 100 free with a 47.33, better than his season-best of 47.39 from last year, while D'Orsogna opened up his evening with a 47.35 for second in the event. Kyle Richardson clipped Cameron McEvoy, 47.61 to 47.63, for third-place honors.

Grace Loh and Rachel Goh completed their epic backstroke battles this week with Loh getting the last laugh as she won the women's 50 back, 27.03 to 27.23, ahead of Goh. Holly Barratt clinched third in 27.55.

Ashley Delaney and Travis Mahoney put on a show in the men's 200 back with Delaney holding off a hard-charging Mahoney, 1:51.75 to 1:51.94, down the stretch. Mahoney nearly caught Delaney down the stretch after trailing 1:22.00 to 1:23.32 at the 150-meter mark. Ben Edmonds finished third in 1:52.21.

Sally Foster dominated the women's 200 breast in 2:21.75, while Jessica Hansen touched second in 2:25.98. Jenna Strauch completed the podium with a third-place time of 2:26.27. Brianna Throssell hit the wall in 58.46 to win the women's 100 fly. Jemma Schlicht finished second in 58.66, while Brittany Elmslie and Madeline Groves tied for third with matching 58.81s.

Christian Sprenger gave his Australian (26.54) and All Comers (26.60) records a bit of a run in the men's 50 breast with a winning time of 26.96. Nikolas Pregelj touched second in 27.46, while Joshua Palmer claimed third in 27.77.

Marieke Guehrer ripped off a 24.45 to take home the women's 50 free title. Olivia Halicek earned second in 24.57, while Alexandra Purcell picked up third in 24.61. Grant Irvine followed in the men's 200 fly with a 1:53.52 for the win. Christopher Wright placed second in 1:55.37, while Andrew Cameron earned third in 1:56.30.

Angie Bainbridge captured the women's 200 free title in 1:55.16. Jessica Morrison (1:56.93) and Blair Evans (1:57.10) finished second and third, respectively. Jordan Harrison snared the men's 1500 free crown in 14:43.26. Matthew Levings placed second in 14:47.01, while Mack Horton took third in 14:47.72.

West Coast's Mark Ferguson, Lennard Bremer, Ryan Steenkamp and D'Orsogna topped the men's 400 medley relay in 3:34.19.
Amanda Fowler was listed first in the women's 50 back multi-class with a 33.63, while Madeline Scott was listed first in the women's 100 fly multi-class with a 1:12.25. Jeremy Tidy was listed first in the men's 100 fly multi-class with a 1:01.06.
