Chinese University Games: Lu Ying, Tang Yi Shine; Hosts Dominate Relays

TIANJIN, China, September 16. THE Chinese University Games continued today in Tianjin with the hosts dominating the relays this evening.

Olympic silver medalist Lu Ying cruised to victory in the women's 100 fly with a 58.85. Her top time came at the Olympics this year when she shot through the two-lap event in 56.87. Liu Nan finished second this evening in 59.45, while Gong Jie earned third in 59.50.

Olympic bronze medalist Tang Yi swept the sprint freestyle events in Tianjin with a 25.62 in the women's 50 free a day after topping the women's 100 free in 55.03. Pang Jiaying finished second in 26.11, while Yao Jianan (26.34) and Zhu Qianwei (26.39) rounded out the top four in the splash-and-dash event.

Chen Qian topped the women's 800 free in 8:32.94, while Li Xuanxu touched second in 8:34.28. Wang Xinyu rounded out the top three in 8:43.86. Lu Zhiwu hit the wall in 22.94 to capture the men's 50 free, while Shi Yang claimed second-place honors in 23.02. Shi Tengfei snared third in 23.16. Zhang Qibin stopped the clock in 52.66 to easily win the men's 100 fly. Wang Yixin finished a distant second in 54.02, while Liuyu turned in a third-place time of 54.29.

Relays rounded out the rest of the day with Tianjin winning three out of the four on offer. Tianjin won the men's 400 free relay in 3:20.71 with Shanghai (3:32.41) and Guangdong (3:32.99) taking second and third. Tianjin also won the women's 400 free relay in 3:53.05. Beijing (4:00.71) and Jiangsu (4:04.34) completed the podium in that event. Tianjin also topped the men's 400 medley relay in 3:39.01. Beijing (3:42.94) and Shanghai (3:43.47) placed second and third.

Shanghai raced to victory in the women's 400 medley relay in 4:04.91, while Tianjin took second in 4:06.06. Jiangsu wound up third in 4:06.68.
