Jose Finkel Trophy: Nicholas Dos Santos Clips Cesar Cielo in 50 Fly to Conclude Meet

SAO PAULO, Brazil, August 25. SHORT course competition came to a close at the Jose Finkel Trophy meet, which was held in Sao Paulo, Brazil this week on the heels of the 2012 London Olympics.

Nicholas Dos Santos nipped Cesar Cielo, 22.22 to 22.40, to win the men's 50 fly, just missing his South American standard of 22.16 set back in 2009 during the Singapore stop of the FINA World Cup series. Kaio Almeida, meanwhile, picked up third-place honors with a 22.94.

Inge Dekker hit the wall in 25.65 to set the meet record in the women's 50 fly, not far off her lifetime best of 25.00 set in 2010, which ranks her fifth all time in the event. Marieke Guehrer finished second in 25.72, while Daynara De Paula placed third in 26.00.

Poliana Okimoto stopped the clock first in the women's 1500 free with a time of 16:36.54, while Ana Da Cunha earned second-place honors with a time of 16:40.22. Bianca Avella rounded out the top three with a time of 16:48.11. Luiz Arapiraca picked up the other distance free win of the night with a 7:49.80 in the men's 800 free. Lucas Kanieski snared second in 7:51.09, while Marcos De Oliveira placed third in 7:51.57.

Fabiola Molina captured the women's 100 back crown in 58.88, while Kelly Stubbins took second in 59.67. Etiene Medeiros wound up third in 59.88. Guilherme Guido snagged the men's 100 back title in 50.57. Daniel Orzehcowski finished second in 51.48, while Leonardo De Deus placed third in 52.43.

Fabiola Molina, Renata Sander, Inge Dekker and Femke Heemskerk topped the women's 400 medley relay with a time of 3:58.38, while Leonardo De Deus, Henrique Barbosa, Nicholas Dos Santos and Cesar Cielo claimed the men's 400 medley relay crown in 3:27.34.

In the team race, Minas Tenis Club edged Cl De Regatas, 2333.50 to 2314.50, for the overall championship. Corinthians placed third with 1843 points, while Esport Clube finished fourth with 1812 points.
