Croatia Long Course Championships: Dora Kamenjarin Sets Junior Record

RIJEKA, Croatia, July 12. THE 2012 Croatian Long Course Championships got underway today with finals in ten events. Dora Kamenjarin stole the spotlight with a new junior record in the women's 200m free.

In the women's 50m fly, Valery Svigir took top honors with a winning effort of 27.52. Monika Babok finished three tenths behind in 27.82, while Andrijana Bencic also cleared 28 with a 27.95 for third. In the men's event, Mario Todorovic got to the wall first in 24.14 for a .4-second victory over Mihael Vukic (24.54). Alexei Puninski finished under 25 seconds as well with a third place 24.72.

Dora Kamenjarin, Zeljana Knezevic and Ana Matkovic pulled away from the field early in the women's 200m free and battled till the end, with Kamenjarin getting her hand on the wall first in 2:05.81, a new Croatian junior record. That time lowered
Annamarija Petricevic's previous record of 2:06.14. Knezevic finished just .05 behind her in 2:05.86, while Matkovic wound up third in 2:06.15. Dominik Straga extended his lead at the halfway point en route to winning the men's 200m free in 1:51.32, not far in front of Mateo Muzek's 1:51.83. Ivan Kristo placed third in 1:53.56.

Anja Trisic claimed the women's distance freestyle crown with a winning time of 9:19.14 in the 800m free. Doris Beros (9:30.59) and Kate Gudelj (9:37.05) rounded out the podium finishers. Sven Arnar Saemundsson earned the win in the men's 1500m free with a 16:29.38, more than ten seconds in front of Ivan Kukolja's 16:39.98. Andrej Ivanovic placed third in 16:52.13.

Ana Radic built a solid lead after the breaststroke leg and then held on to win the women's 200m IM in 2:21.90, barely holding off Ana Matkovic, who finished in 2:22.24. Mabel Sulic finished right behind in 2:22.39. Meanwhile, Niksa Roki collected the men's 200m IM title with a 2:03.46, outracing Fran Krznaric (2:05.15) and Dominik Straga (2:05.21).

Ana Matkovic, Roberta Mulac, Zeljana Knezevic and Sanja Jovanovic put together the fastest women's 4x200m free relay at 8:49.49, while Fran Krznaric, Mateo Muzek, Lovre Soric and Hrvoje Capan posted the quickest time in the men's race at 7:36.31.
