French Federation Makes Several Olympic Roster Changes

PARIS, France, July 11. THE French Swimming Federation has made quite a few changes to its Olympic roster today. First and foremost, Amaury Leveaux elected to drop the men's 200-meter freestyle to focus on the 400 freestyle relay.

“I spoke with Philippe Lucas (Leveaux's coach), and he preferred that Amaury focuses on the 400 instead of wasting energy on the 200, where he feels he will not be able to go 1:44 or have a chance at the podium,” French swimming's National Technical Director Christian Donze said.

Leveaux had been ranked 11th in the event with a 1:46.72 this year, with teammate Yannick Agnel on the top of the world rankings with a 1:44.42 heading into London. Michael Phelps had already scratched the 200 free as well, even though ranked second in 1:45.69.

Plenty of other changes are being reported by the French press. Clement Lefert (100 fly), Giacomo Perez Dortona (100 breast), Charlotte Bonnet (100 free), Fanny Babou (100 breast), Justine Bruno (100 fly) and Ophelia-Cyrielle Etienne (200 free) are all now being reported to have additional swims.
