Venezuelan Open Championships: More National Titles on the Line

MARICAIBO, Venezuela, May 18. THE second day of competition at the Venezuela Open featured many of close races in long course competition.

Wendy Rodriguez kicked the session off with a narrow victory in the women's 50 butterfly. Her time of 28.43 just beat Erika Torrellas, who was second in 28.45. Isabella Paez was third with a 28.86.

Miguel Ferreira won the men's 50 breaststroke with a 28.82. Second place went to Rohan Pinto with a 29.85, and Carlos Claverie took third with a 29.93.

Annagraz Bonsanti won the women's 800 freestyle with a 9:10.50. Florencia Melo was second in 9:14.33, and Calida Aleta finished third with a 9:22.44. In the men's distance event of the day, Christian Quintero won the 400 freestyle in 3:55.78, with Daniele Tirabassi second with a 3:57.71. Alejandro Gomez was third with a 4:00.60.

Marcos Lavado won the men's 200 freestyle in 2:01.46, just ahead of Alexis Marquez' 2:01.52. Gabriel Hernandez was third with a 2:04.02.

In the women's 200 backstroke, Maria Ramirez took the title with a 2:22.71. Elimar Barrios placed second with a 2:25.49, and Marcela Gramckow was third in 2:29.00.

Wendy Rodriguez took her second win of the day in the women's 100 freestyle in 57.73 in a close race with Erika Torrellas and Jenifer Marquez, who placed second and third with times of 57.77 and 57.79, respectively. Luis Rojas won the men's 100 backstroke with a 56.99, ahead of Adolfo Delgado's 58.46 and Jesus Lopez' 59.17.

Eliana Barrios won the women's 400 individual medley with a 5:10.03, well ahead of second-place finisher Vanessa Farra's time of 5:13.35. Claudia Travieso was third with a 5:13.60.

Parque Naciones Unidas won the men's 800 free relay with a 7:45.83, with Club Maporal Barinas taking second with a 7:51.44 and Hogar Hispano third with a 7:53.01.
