Swiss National Championships: Day Three Complete

ZURICH, Switzerland, March 17. THE third day of competition is complete at the Swiss national championships, serving as a selection meet for the Olympics and European championships.

Kilian Bossard started the session with a win in the men's 400 IM in a time of 4:28.95. Jeremy Desplanches had been leading through breaststroke but settled for second with a 4:29.00. Yannick Kaser was third with a 4:31.46.

Annick van Westendorp was the winner of the women's 400 IM with a time of 4:59.87. Well back in second was Mia Baric with a 5:05.07. Sheena Cameron took third with a 5:05.57.

Martin Schweizer took the men's 50 breast with a time of 28.55, with 100 breast champion Yannick Kaser, fresh off the 400 IM, taking second with a 28.80. Third place went to Valerio Romagnoli with a 29.65.

Stephanie Spahn chased her national record of 31.94 in the women's 50 breast, but fell short with a winning time of 32.58. Second place went to Franziska Hugli with a 33.58 and third place went to Corinne Meier with a 33.77.

In the men's 1500 free, Jovan Mitrovic was on pace in the early stages to break his national record of 15:33.12, but settled for the win with a 15:35.86. Stefan Sigrist also broke 16 minutes for second place in 15:48.46. Third place went to Andrea Bruder with a 16:30.53.

Matilde Frigerio won the women's 800 free with a 9:34.11, with Melanie Nurnberger making a late charge to almost catch Frigerio and take second with a 9:34.89. Elisa Marani was also in the title race, taking third with a 9:35.28.

Olympians Dominik Meichtry and Flori Lang put on a show for the crowd in the men's 100 free final. Lang led at 50 meters but was chased down by Meichtry, who got the win in 49.61 to Lang's 49.62. Also earning a spot on the podium was Aurelien Kunzi with a third-place time of 50.66.

Russia's Maria Ugolkova won the women's 100 free with a 55.95. Danielle Villars was second with a 5.682, and Melanie Schweiger touched third in 57.89.

Lukas Rauftlin won the men's 200 back with a time of 2:03.21, holding off Elijah Stolz, who was second with a 2:03.92. Nils Liess was third with a 2:07.56.

The women's 200 back was won by Villars with a 2:18.53. Danielle Sims and Laetitia Perez battled for second place, with Sims getting the silver medal with a 2:20.52 to Perez's 2:20.77.
