Amsterdam Swim Cup: Ranomi Kromowidjojo, Jennie Johansson Clock Second-Ranked Times

AMSTERDAM, The Netherlands, March 16. THE Amsterdam Swim Cup kicked off the first day of competition with a healthy sprinkling of world-ranked times, including a pair of second-ranked times.

In a stocked finale, Ranomi Kromowidjojo surfaced victorious with a 24.24 in the women's 50 free. The swim is the second best of the year behind only Fran Halsall's 24.13 from British Olympic Trials. Marleen Veldhuis placed second in 24.52, just off her now third-ranked 24.49 also from the British Trials. Inge Dekker (24.75) and Hinkelien Schreuder (25.16) picked up third and fourth in the event, while Triin Aljand finished fifth in 25.29.

Jennie Johansson topped the women's 50 breast in 31.24 to move to second in the world behind Leiston Pickett. Pickett clocked a 30.93 in Australia in February. Moniek Nijhuis took second tonight in 31.63, off her fifth-ranked season best of 31.49 from Antwerp in January. Joline Hostman placed third in 32.37.

Femke Heemskerk dominated the women's 200 free with a time of 1:56.54. That time bettered her fourth-ranked season best of 1:56.78 set in Nancy in January, but was not enough to crack the top three that all posted 1:55s. Elise Bouwens (2:00.65) and Hannah Miley (2:00.98) finished second and third.

Otylia Jedrzejczak cruised to victory in the women's 200 fly with a 2:10.30. She's been much faster with a fifth-ranked 2:07.92 during the British Olympic Trials earlier this month. Ingvild Snildal took second in 2:12.29, while Ida Marko-Varga placed third in 2:13.34.

Job Kienhuis captured the men's 1500 free title in 15:14.02, moving up to seventh in the world rankings. Ferry Weertman touched second in the 15:41.27, while Nikolaos Manousakis placed third in 15:58.29.

Nick Driebergen won the men's 200 back in 1:59.07, tying Tobias Oriwol for ninth in the world rankings this year. Dimitrios Chasiotis took second in 2:03.53, while Marco Albade Bomstad placed third in 2:04.83.

Panagiotis Samilidis picked up the men's 200 breast title in 2:12.14 to take 10th in the world rankings. Lennart Stekelenburg placed second in 2:12.72 to move up to 15th in the rankings. Savvas Kougloumtzoglou earned third in 2:16.35.

Joeri Verlinden raced to victory in the men's 50 fly with a 24.05, tying him for 16th in the world rankings. Christos Katrantzis took second in 24.60, while Peter Mankoc placed third in 24.62. Sebastiaan Verschuren claimed the men's 100 free in 49.30, just off his 17th-ranked 49.28 from Antwerp in January. Stefan Nystrand (49.62) and Konrad Czerniak (49.66) completed the top three.

Sara Nordenstam claimed the women's 400 IM title in 4:49.15, while Lieke Verouden (4:54.72) and Lisa Dreesens (4:56.15) placed second and third. Annemarie Worst took home the women's 50 back title in 29.54, while Hazal Sarikaya finished second in 29.68. Anja van der Hout wound up third in 29.72.
