Suits Undergo Another Evolution

LONDON, England, November 30. SHORTLY before the debut of Speedo's newest effort to evolve under the new non-techsuit rules within the sport, SwimNews' Craig Lord put together a strong history of what occurred during the techsuit era that spanned from 2008-10.

Lord walks his readers through the techsuit era that included more than 250 world records in a single year as well as more than 40 world records downed at the 2009 World Championships in Rome. He also recalls the shock to veterans of the sport as a quantum leap occurred in the progression of the world records.

He also relates how a vote that included nearly 170 nations occurred to ban the techsuit, and return the sport to a textile-based activity. The ban went into place in 2010, and only two long course world records have been set since the ban.
