Danish Short Course Nationals: Mie Nielsen Picks Up Fourth Title; Sets Third Danish Junior Record

THISTED, Denmark, November 25. A day after downing a pair of Danish junior records, Mie Nielsen was at it again at the Danish Short Course Nationals held in Thisted.

Nielsen clocked a 2:11.33 in the women's 200 IM for the win, and smashed the previous record of 2:14.45 set by Katrine Holm Sorensen back in 2008. The swim also pushed her shooting distance of the top 25 in the world rankings. Sorensen, meanwhile, finished second in 2:11.98, while Rikke Moller Pedersen earned third in 2:13.58.

Nielsen returned with a double in the women's 200 back when she clocked a 2:07.67, coming up more than a second short of her fourth junior record as Pernille Larsen posted a 2:06.27 back in 2008. Lotte Friis finished second with a 2:11.20, while Christina Hvid Edill touched third in 2:15.22.

Friis, who stands third in the world with a 4:00.29 from the Berlin stop of the World Cup, cruised to victory in the women's 400 free with a 4:03.95. Amalie Emma Thomsen (4:12.93) and Mathilde Riis Sorensen (4:16.94) earned second and third, while Cecilie Johannessen posted a 4:09.72 in exhibition.

Jeanette Ottesen raced to the win in the women's 50 fly with a 25.89, shy of her third-ranked season best of 25.50 from Berlin, while Pernille Juel finished second in 27.27. Pernille Blume placed third in 27.31, while Johannessen posted her second exhibition swim of the night with a 27.89.

Pedersen returned in the women's 100 breast with a 1:06.66 for the win, finishing shy of her seventh-ranked season best of 1:05.64 also from Berlin. Josephina Bartela placed second in 1:09.01, while Katrine Liljedahl picked up third in 1:09.18.

Chris Christensen won the men's 200 IM in 1:58.59, while Morten Klarskov took second in 1:59.43. Nikolai Kirketerp-Moller placed third in 1:59.56. Anders Lie claimed the men's 800 free in 8:02.28. Anton Orskov Ipsen (8:07.51) and Thomas Olsen (8:18.07) finished second and third, while Olaf Wildeboer Faber posted an 8:16.17 as an exhibition swimmer.

Jakob Andkjaer clocked a 23.74 to win the men's 50 fly, while Daniel Steen Andersen (24.82) and Jonas Sorensen (24.83) put on a show racing for second and third. Aschwin Wildeboer Faber turned in a 24.19 as an exhibition swimmer. Morten Klarskov won the men's 100 breast in 1:00.16, while Christensen finished second in 1:01.01. Emil Klingberg placed third in 1:01.64.

Andreas Schiellerup claimed the men's 50 back in 25.60 with Anders Moller taking second in 26.09. Lasse Vestergaard touched third in 26.17. Frans Johannessen won the men's 200 free in 1:47.75, while Soren Dahl (1:47.84) and Daniel Skaaning (1:48.39) placed second and third.

In relay action, Line Gregersen, Josephina Bartela, Jeanette Ottesen and Julie Brondum Petersen won the women's 200 medley relay in 1:52.11, while Daniel Skaaning, Morten Klarskov, Soren Dahl and Jakob Andkjaer took home the men's 200 medley relay in 1:38.00.
