Chinese National City Games: Shao Yiwen Claims 800 Free; He Jianbin Wins Fourth Gold

NANCHANG, China, October 23. DURING the penultimate night of long course meter action at the Chinese National City Games, the women's 800 free featured world-class times, while He Jianbin captured his fourth gold medal of the meet.

Shao Yiwen snagged the women's 800 free title in 8:25.21. That swim came up short of Shao's sixth-ranked season best of 8:24.78 clocked at Chinese Nationals held in September. Jinan Xinxin took second overall in the distance event with an 8:28.82 to move to 18th in the world rankings, while Li Xuanxu finished third in 8:31.52. Li has been much faster with a fourth-ranked 8:23.96 from Chinese Nationals in April.

He Jianbin won his fourth gold medal of the meet with a 22.69 to win the men's 50 free. That title went along with his triumphs in the 100 free, 100 back and 400 free relays. Zeng Xianling placed second in 22.90, while Wang Qian earned third in 23.18.

Chen Jie came from behind to win the women's 200 back in 2:10.29. Trailing throughout the race, Chen tracked down Yu Yaping, who finished second in 2:10.32. Yao Yi earned third-place honors in 2:10.65. Zhang Qibin claimed the men's 100 fly crown in 52.69, just off his season best of 52.64 from Chinese Nationals in September. Yu Deyang touched second in 54.23, while Jiang Huan finished third in 54.60.

Li Zhesi led semifinal qualifying in the women's 50 free with a 25.36, while Xu Wen earned the second seed in 25.58. Lee Yunqi paced qualifying for the men's 1500 free with a 15:33.32, while Wang Ke qualified second in 15:43.71.
