Queensland Police Union Riled Up Over Kenrick Monk’s Lies

BRISBANE, Australia, October 2. THE hits keep on coming after Kenrick Monk initially told police that he was involved in a hit-and-run accident to cover up a skateboarding accident that led to two broken bones in his elbow.

Now, his false reports to police have upset the powers-that-be in Queensland, including Queensland Police Union president Ian Leavers.

"The public rightly expect that no one should deliberately waste the time of police, whether they be wannabe B-grade celebrity athletes like this modern day 'boy who cried wolf', Kenrick Monk, or just regular people," Leavers told Australian media. "Mr. Monk may say he was under extreme pressure, however, that does not excuse him thinking it is alright to make false statements to police and waste their time, as he in turn unfairly casts doubt over all those people who make legitimate complaints to police every day. Perhaps Mr. Monk should take up children's story book writing and leave swimming and skateboarding behind."

The local police are also considering whether to charge Monk for his false statement, which could include a potential fine of up to $10,000. Meanwhile, Swimming Australia will be reviewing whether Monk's lie could be considered a code of conduct violation, potentially impacting his 2012 London Olympics chances.
