Chinese Long Course Nationals: Wang Shun Sets Asian Record

RIZHAO, China, September 22. DURING the second evening of action at the Chinese Long Course Nationals in Rizhao, Wang Shun lowered the Asian record in the men's 400 IM.

Wang threw down a 4:11.61 in the event to clear the previous record of 4:11.89 set by Wang Chengxiang set in April at Chinese spring nationals. Wang Shun moved up to fourth in the world this year behind only Ryan Lochte (4:07.13), Tyler Clary (4:11.17) and Laszlo Cseh (4:11.22). Huang Chaosheng placed second in 4:12.54 to jump to ninth in the world rankings, while Yang Zhixian picked up third-place honors in 4:13.77 to crack the top 15.

Tang Yi, who stands 11th this year in the women's 100 free with a 54.08 from April, took home the title tonight in 54.65. Wang Shijia finished second in 55.38, while Zheng Yanan wound up third in 55.49. Lu Ying, meanwhile, won the women's 50 fly in 25.99 – off an eighth-ranked best of 25.87 from Worlds. Ling Shuyuan (26.64) and Jiao Liuyang (26.75) placed second and third.

Shao Yiwen raced to victory in the women's 800 free with an 8:24.78 to improve to sixth in the world rankings, just behind Li Xuanxu (8:23.96) as the top swimmer from China in the event. Li, meanwhile, took second tonight in 8:25.18, while Bi Yirong finished third in 8:34.09.

Shi Tengfei claimed the men's 50 free crown in 22.66 with Shi Yang taking second in 22.79. Hu Yue placed third in 22.92.

In relay action, Zhejiang won the men's 800 free relay title in 7:21.25, while Tianjing (7:24.74) and Jiangsu (7:27.95) wound up second and third.
