All Africa Games: Meet Records Tumble on Day Two; Karin Prinsloo Wins Third Individual Title

MAPUTO, Mozambique, September 6. THE All Africa Games continued through a second day of action with South Africa's Karin Prinsloo earning her third individual title of the meet.

Prinsloo posted a meet-record time of 1:59.84 in the women's 200 free. That effort crushed the previous mark of 2:02.45 set by Melissa Corfe in 2007. Tunisia's Zeineb Khalfallah picked up second in 2:05.44, while South Africa's Natasha De Vos earned third in 2:06.20.

Kenya's Jason Dunford set a meet record in the men's 100 fly with a 52.13. That swim smashed his previous standard of 53.40 set in 2007. Dunford's time today came up short of his fourth-ranked season best of 51.59 from Worlds. South Africa's Chad Le Clos (52.17) and Neil Watson (55.14) took second and third. Le Clos improved to 17th in the world with his swim.

Le Clos returned in the men's 400 IM with a winning time of 4:16.88. That effort beat the meet record of 4:21.91 set by Riaan Schoeman in 2007. Tunisia's Taki Mrabet touched second in 4:21.11, while Schoeman wound up third in 4:25.32.

Egypt's Farida Osman twice set the meet record in the women's 50 fly. First, during qualifying, she clocked a 27.24 before winning the title in 27.08. South Africa's Mandy Loots took second in 27.30, while Senegal's Binta Zahra Diop placed third in 28.45.

Cameron van der Burgh claimed the men's 50 breast in 27.81, just missing his meet standard of 27.74 from 2007. Senegal's Malick Fall turned in a second-place 28.33, while Algeria's Nabil Kebbab placed third in 28.71.

Tunisia's Ahmed Mathlouthi touched out South Africa's Mark Randall, 8:10.00 to 8:10.04, for the men's 800 free crown. South Africa's Jasper Venter earned third in 8:21.76.

Results from the women's 200 breast were not reported.
