SHENZHEN, China, August 15. THE second day of long course meter racing at the World University Games produced a second meet record.

China's Tang Yi downed the meet record in the women's 100 free with a triumphant time of 54.24. That performance wiped out the 54.35 set by Hannah Wilson back in 2009, but fell short of Tang's 11th-ranked season best of 54.08 from the Chinese Nationals in April. Ukraine's Darya Stepanyuk finished second in 55.32, while USA's Megan Romano grabbed third in 55.38.

USA's Tim Phillips captured the men's 50 fly title with a 23.51. That effort pushed him to a 12th-ranked tie with Ivan Lendjer in the world rankings. Italy's Paolo Facchinelli touched second in 23.85, while Japan's Masayuki Kishida earned third in 23.93.

New Zealand's Lauren Boyle tracked down the women's 400 free crown in 4:07.78, just holding off Spain's Melania Costa Schmid (4:07.97) for the victory. USA's Stephanie Peacock beat teammate Alyssa Anderson, 4:10.25 to 4:10.49, in the battle for third place.

Japan's Yohsuke Miyamoto wound up third overall in 7:56.29, off his 18th-ranked season best of 7:55.77 from Worlds. Meanwhile, South Africa's Heerden Herman took fourth in 7:56.39 to earn 19th in the world rankings.

New Zealand's Gareth Kean claimed the men's 100 back victory in 54.71, while Spain's Juan Miguel Rando Galvez took second in 54.94. New Zealand's Kurt Bassett finished third in 55.21.

USA's Jimmy Feigen (49.27), Tim Phillips (48.96), Kohlton Norys (48.73) and Bobby Savulich (48.88) led wire-to-wire in the men's 400 free relay with a 3:15.84 for the win.
