Fields Set for FINA Water Polo League Super Final

HUNTINGTON BEACH, California, May 30. THE fields are set for the FINA Water Polo League Super Final in June, after the conclusion of the Americas qualifying which took place May 24-27 in Los Alamitos, California.

Competitors in the Men's Super Final, which will be held in Chelyabinsk, Russia, June 11-16, are: China, Hungary, Japan, Montenegro, Russia, Serbia–as well as the Americas qualifiers, the USA and Brazil. The United States suffered only one loss to Brazil during the tournament and wound up with identical records of 3-1. Canada was 0-4 in their matches and did not move forward.

Meeting in Beijing, China, June 1-6 for the Women's Super Final will be Austrlaia, China, Hungary, Italy, Russia, Spain plus the qualifiers from the Americas round–Canada and the United States. The USA went undefeated, earning a perfect 4-0 tournament record. Canada was 2-2 and Brazil, the non-qualifier, was 0-4.

In the women's preliminary rounds, the USA women earned their perfect 4-0 finish with 11-7 and 8-7 victories over Canada, and 10-0 and 11-1 triumphs over Brazil. Canada easily defeated Brazil in both their matches with scores of 17-4 and 11-3.

The USA men lost in a tough match to Brazil, 13-12 (shootout), but rebounded with a 13-7 win over the Brazilians, plus two wins over Canada, 22-3 and 24-0. Brazil trounced Canada twice with final scores of 11-1 and 11-2.

The American teams for the Super Final have been selected.

Competing for the men will be 2012 Olympians John Mann (center), Tim Huggen (defender) and Shea Buckner (attacker); as well as goalies Andy Stevens and Garrett Danner; defender Greg Enloe; attackers Collin Smith, Matt De Trane, Janson Wigo, Bret Bonanni, Michael Rosenthal, Alex Brown and Brandon Johnson; and centers Alex Obert and Tommy Corcoran.

The women's American squad will consist of eight members from the 2012 Olympic gold medal squad: goalies Betsey Armstrong and Tumua Anae; defenders Melissa Seidemann and Maggie Steffens; attackers Courtney Mathewson and Kelly Rulon; and centers Annika Dries and Kami Craig. Joining them will be attackers Lolo Silver, Rachel Fattal, Monica Vavic, Kiley Neushul and Jillian Kraus; plus defenders K.K. Clark and Danielle Warde.
