PSYCH SHEET: Chloe Sutton, Nick Thoman To Race At Greensboro Sectionals

GREENSBORO, North Carolina, July 15. OLYMPIANS Chloe Sutton and Nick Thoman highlight a fast field scheduled to compete at the Eastern Section Southern Zone Speedo Champions Series Sectional meet this Thursday through Sunday at the Greensboro Aquatic Center in Greensboro, N.C.

Sutton, a two-time Olympian in the 10K open water event and 400 free, will race her distance freestyle specialties this week and enters the meet with the top seed time in the women’s 800 free (8:23.24), 200 free (1:59.38) and 400 free (4:04.18). She’ll also swim the 100 free, where she’s seeded eighth at 57.25. Sutton will look to put up some quick times in preparation for the Phillips 66 National Championships just down the road.

Olympic gold medalist Nick Thoman will also make the trip to Greensboro from his training base at SwimMAC Carolina. Thoman will swim only the 100 back, where he’ll be the heavy favorite with a personal best of 52.51. Thoman will test out the progress of rehabilitation for his shoulder, which he dislocated in February.

Several collegiate squads will compete in Greensboro as well, including swimmers from the University of Tennessee, the University of Louisville and North Carolina State University. Tennessee Aquatics’ Faith Johnson looks to be one of the top sprinters at the meet with the best time in the 50 free (25.10) and 100 free (55.92). Teammate Molly Hannis could sweep the breaststroke events as well with the best seed time of 1:07.39 in the 100 and 2:29.16 in the 200.

Three-time NCAA champion Joao De Lucca from Louisville will be in the mix for several titles, with the third-best time in the 50 free (22.96) and top time in the 100 free (48.67) and 200 free (1:49.17).
