Darian Townsend Turns in Quick Two-Fer at Speedo Arizona Invitational

MESA, Arizona, May 25. THERE really hasn’t been much competition for NYAC’s Darian Townsend here at the Speedo Arizona Invitational, but he’s definitely been the star attraction at the event in Mesa.

Townsend kept rolling this week at Skyline High with a winning time of 2:03.28 in the men’s 200-meter IM. David Ramirez placed second in the event with a 2:15.18, while Kevin Benavidez wound up third in 2:15.97. Townsend then cruised to the men’s 50-meter free title in 23.21. Alec Lezcano (23.90) and Connor Stirling (23.92) comprised the rest of the top three.

Shelly Drozda, 15, has had herself a strong meet thus far with multiple victories, including another win with a 2:22.88 in the women’s 200-meter IM. Meanwhile, Jordan Ehly finished second in 2:25.27, while Savanna Carlson wound up third in 2:25.68. Miles Dunn picked up the men’s 200-meter breast in 2:27.03, while Matthew Anderson touched second in 2:29.51. Randy Sandoval rounded out the top three in 2:35.26.

Janet Zhao took home the women’s 200-meter breast with a time of 2:42.95, while Ellinore Duncan placed second in 2:44.08. Jordan Ehly finished third in 2:45.47. Kelli Benjamin then topped the women’s 50-meter free in 27.11. Logan Neal took second in 27.50, while Carlson took her second podium of the night with a third-place 27.95.
